This one-hour pre hive tour session is the perfect introduction for aspiring and beginner beekeepers. Join us an hour before the group hive tour for a hands-on learning experience that covers the essentials of bee biology, hive health, and inspection techniques. The hive inspection class includes another 30 minutes after the hive-tour honey tasting for Q”S and A’S.

  • Bee Biology Essentials: Understand the roles of queens, workers, drones, and the significance of brood, eggs, and food stores.
  • Hive Inspection Techniques: Learn what to look for during inspections, including signs of queen health and colony vitality.
  • Seasonal Hive Management: Gain *some insights into pest control and best practices for different times of the year.
  • Beekeeping Basics: Discover *some requirements for hosting a hive on your property, including space, forage availability, and time commitments.

After the lecture, you’ll suit up and participate in a guided hive tour, offering hands-on experience under the supervision of our experienced beekeepers. Depending on the day’s conditions, you may observe advanced practices such as starting new hives, re-queening, swarm prevention, or hive splitting.

  • Signed waivers are required to participate, no exceptions! Please complete a digital waiver before coming:

  • Protective Suits are recommended but not required. Please wear loose fitting, light-colored, long pants and shirts. We have 11 adult and 3 children’s Bee suits available on first come, first serve basis. Reserve the suit in advance by emailing us with the date of the hive tour and number of suits requested.
  • **Hive Tours are completely weather-dependent. If there is rain in the forecast or the temperatures will be less than 65℉, we will contact you by email 12-48 hours before the tour to reschedule or cancel.
  • Can’t make the date you signed up for? Read our cancellation policy.
  • Gift certificates are available for the Beehive Tour. Contact Us if you’d like to purchase one.
