Hive Inspection Class

Join US

Join us for a hands-on beekeeping class!

Bay-beehives-corporate-san-francisco

This event is for beekeepers and aspiring beekeepers designed to get you comfortable working your bees. You will have the opportunity to inspect the hives with our beekeeper’s supervision and guidance.

Learn what to look for during inspections, Queen health, brood, eggs, drones, worker bees, food storage, pest and seasonal management practices and how to keep your bees calm and happy during inspections.

Each class is unique and may include more advanced beekeeping practices like starting new hives, “re-queening,” swarm prevention and doing splits. Sometimes we can plan these in advance- and other times we respond to what’s happening when we open it up for an inspection.

Our Introduction to Beekeeping class is highly recommended as a prerequisite.

Bee suits will be provided— all you need to bring is your sense of fun and adventure! Learn the fascinating inner workings of the hive and why bees are vital to the local and global ecosystem.

Class approximately 2-2 1/2 hours.

Pay what you choose – Range $30-$80

Important Info

Inspections can be unpredictable and beekeepers need to respond to what’s happening in the hive, whether that’s giving the bees additional boxes, handling pests or preventing a swarm.

The best way to learn is by experiencing all scenarios hands-on while under the guidance of an experienced beekeeper.
